One has to face the fact that there is still a portion of the population that wallows in victimhood. They would resent the formal visit of The Queen. Ireland is now a mature free country and should be up to a visit by HM. A majority of Irish would welcome her with open heart and arms. The past should not be forgotten and lessons learnt. But the Irish virtue of forgiveness and love should reign.

There is no need for her to visit the Republic of Ireland.

What use would it do to have ol' queenie vist us? Rouse the rabble and remind us just how better she is than us lowly folks. Keep her out or try her for Bloody Sunday!!!

We should be slow to welcome any monarch to our republic as it is repugnant to basic principles of freedom-the citizen is a subject, The sectarian nature of the English version makes it particularly offensive. They should at least be encouraged to come into the modern age before any invitation is issued

That's up to her she's got the same passport as me and that's an EU one so nothing's stopping Mrs Windsor from dropping by. On the other hand if she is coming as England, representing 800 years of unbroken monarchial domination and suppression of the Irish there's the small matter of an apology first. Make it quick make if fast and we can all be friends again. Ma'am.

Yes. Although we move into the 21st century a free and independent nation with friendly relations with Britain at all levels (Northern Ireland notwithstanding), there is unfinished business from the past. Closure would be good. It would be better coming from the current Queen who was the transition person from Empire to State and linked to the events, than from a successor who can easily distance him/herself from the past and utter some empty statements.

Definately not in the current economic climate. Can you just imagine the expense!!!!
Lets be realistic we don't need to spend money we don't have to host and dine foreign dignitaries when we can't pay our bills. It would be a slap in the face for those losing their jobs and homes to spend public money on such things. Wait until finances are better and then, like everyone else, she is very welcome.

With our country needing many billions right now, i feel it would be an ideal time for her to return all she and her ancestors robbed from us. She can then return post-haste to her dysfunctional family, sort out all her and their problems, then issue an apology to our country, and arrange housing etc, for all the unionists in england. and then stay where she is. It's only my opinion, so i hope nobody loses their head's over it.
