On Tuesday, May 15, 2007 Neil Mc Donough from Ireland asked:

Pat I am a single man in my late 20s who has a steady job which is slightly over the average wage. I am still renting and I have little prospect of buying a house on the open market. What are your plans for Affordable Housing and helping people in my situation to get on the property ladder.

On Tuesday, May 15, 2007 Shona Godkin from Ireland asked:

I would be concerned that the Labour Party promise of giving everyone means to buy a home will only add once more to the already excessive price of houses, rather than letting the housing market now self regulate to more reasonable levels. I would like to hear your opinion on this. Secondly, if you review Stamp duty will rates be reintroduced?

Mr. Rabbitte, in recent years you stated that you believe it will fall on you to 'comfort the afflicted and afflict the comforted'. Do you still stand by this statement? Will your party in government bring an end to Irish prosperity?

How can you ensure efficiency in the public sector when one of the biggest obstacles is trade union inflexibility - the same trade unions which partially fund your party & the same trade unions of which you are a strong supporter?

On Tuesday, May 15, 2007 Stephen Butler from Ireland asked:

Hi Pat. Best of luck on the 24th. My question is the following: Can you please explain why you (and FG) want to cut taxes even further when average income tax rates are already among the lowest in the developed world? Surely a real alternative could have been offered by halting tax cuts and increasing investment in health, education, infrastructure etc. It seems to me you've joined FF, PD etc in a race to the bottom by offering what you think the majority want, rather than what real centre-left social democracy should stand for. As a life long Labour supporter I find myself for the first time looking for an alternative candidate to vote for, and I really think the Green Party are now closest to what I believe in and want for this country.

On Tuesday, May 15, 2007 Miranda di Camillo from Ireland asked:

Pat - Climate change represents a severe threat to the Irish economy, yet the Stern Report presented to the UK government stresses that the challenge of addressing climate change actually presents significant opportunities for new economic growth (e.g. in alternative fuels, alternative energy and other new technologies). It is clear that Fianna Fail and the PDs have not grasped this and do not take the issue seriously. The fact that Ireland is so far beyond its Kyoto limits is proof enough of this. What would Labour do to reverse the damage done by the current government, if elected? Can Labour guarantee that they recognise the urgency of this issue, and that they will make a real difference in a short time if elected to government?
